A vibrant celebration of Manipuri literature unfolded at the Sahitya Akademi Hall in Nazrul Kalakshetra, Agartala on Thursday March 28. The Sahitya Festival dedicated to the rich literary heritage of Manipuri Sahitya was jointly hosted by the Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Manipur, and the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura (MSPT).
The esteemed chief guest Ph. Chandrakumar Sharma from Mandalay of Myanmar inaugurated the event on Thursday, March 28. Distincguished personalities including R K Budhimanta and Saratchand Thiyam, both from Manipur graced the inaugural function as guests of honour.
Diving into the topic of Lai Harawba, speakers Dr. Nganbi Chanu from Manipur, engaged in insightful discussions during the symposium session. Along with her, prominent writer and resource person of the Manipuri Sahitya W Birmangal Singha from Tripura and Dr. Ch.Rajketan from Manipur, and Dr. W Kumari Chanu from Manipur talked on various topics related with Manipuri literature and rich heritage.
Th. Nilkumar Singha, General Secretary of MSPT, delivered the welcoming address, with the event presided over by L. Biramangal Singh, President of MSPT. The programme featured two sessions, a symposium and a poets’ meeting – chaired respectively by L Birmangal Singh and Thangjam Rathindra Singha.
Highlighting the poetic prowess of the region, 27 poets from Manipur and Tripura presented their verses, enriching the gathering with the lyrical essence of Manipuri literature. The Sahitya Festival served as a platform for literary enthusiasts to delve into the cultural tapestry of Manipur, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and appreciation for the diverse literary traditions of the region.
